The question everyone asks is "what's your best price?" The question they should ask is "what does this cost to own for five years?"
Here's the checklist I use now, on every significant purchase:
- Ask for third-party test data and give it two weeks. If it doesn't arrive, that's your answer.
- Try to find the manual or catalogue before you buy. If it isn't public, expect pain later.
- Check local parts availability and lead times — not just the price on the quote.
- Write down exactly what "support" includes: hours, on-site visits, response time, in the contract.
- Build a TCO model with energy, labor, and downtime risk, not just purchase price.
